The Cheese Shop Mice

In the back wall of the cheese shop, there was a tiny round hole, and behind that hole lived two mice named Mila and Mo. Every night, they crept out when the shop was dark and quiet.

The shelves were full of golden wheels of cheese, and the smell was truly wonderful. There was sharp cheddar, soft brie, and salty blue cheese on the shelves. Mila wanted to taste every cheese in one night, but Mo shook his head and said that would make them sick.

He suggested they pick one cheese and share it slowly, and Mila agreed, so they chose a small wheel of aged cheddar. The rind was firm, and the inside was creamy and rich. They nibbled one tiny piece each and closed their eyes.

The flavor was so good that they sat in silence. Mo said that slow tasting is better than greedy gobbling. Mila nodded, because her belly felt happy and not full.

Each night they returned for one new cheese, and they learned to enjoy the smell, the color, and the taste. The shop owner never noticed his tiny guests, but he often wondered why the cheese tasted even better in the morning.

One night, Mo found a wheel with a blue line through it, and Mila said it looked like a map of a river. They tasted a tiny piece and made happy faces, and after that, they named it the river cheese.

The two mice had many wonderful nights together, and they decided that sharing made every cheese taste sweeter. They never went back to greedy gobbling again.

The moon shone through the window onto the cheese wheels, and the mice made a little picnic on a wooden box. They saved a piece for the next night, because Mo said good cheese is worth waiting for.
